Cheeseboard, made by MN Cheese Monger LLC (a Wyoming limited liability company), is a productivity tool built around your clipboard, your voice, and your screen — three of the most personal kinds of data on a computer. We've designed the product so we never see most of it. This page explains exactly what we do collect, why, and how to control it.

What we never collect

The Cheeseboard for Mac app runs locally. We do not collect, transmit, or store the contents of your clipboard, the text of your dictations, the images you capture, or the keystrokes you type. We do not record ambient audio. We do not scan your screen in the background. Anything Cheeseboard captures stays on your machine unless you explicitly share it (e.g., dropping a screenshot into Slack, or generating a public walkthrough link).

What we do collect

On the website (cheeseboard.ai)

  • Cloudflare Web Analytics. Aggregate, cookieless statistics about page views, top countries, top referrers, and browser type. No personal identifiers, no cross-site tracking. Always on.
  • PostHog product analytics — only if you accept via the cookie banner. PostHog records which pages you visit, which buttons you click, and a replay of your session so we can debug usability issues. Form input values are masked. You can decline at any time and we won't load PostHog at all.
  • Server logs. Standard web-server records (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent) retained briefly for security and abuse prevention. Not used for marketing.

In the Cheeseboard for Mac app

  • Account info. When you sign in, your email, name, and a unique account ID are stored via our authentication provider (WorkOS). Used to authenticate you and apply your subscription tier.
  • Product usage events. When you use a feature (open the panel, capture a screenshot, finish a dictation, complete onboarding, start a trial, upgrade), we send an event to our analytics so we can understand which features matter and find bugs. The event includes the action name and minimal context (e.g., "voice cleanup applied: yes/no") — never the content of what you captured.
  • Crash and error reports. If the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, we send a stack trace and basic device info (macOS version, app version) to Sentry so we can fix it. We strip user content from these reports.
  • Subscription and billing data. Handled by our payment processor; we receive only what's needed to grant access to your tier.

Why we collect it

We use the data above to (a) keep the product running, (b) understand which features work and which don't, (c) diagnose and fix bugs, and (d) plan what to build next. We do not sell data, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use it to train AI models.

Cookies

The website uses a small number of cookies:

  • cheeseboard-consent — remembers your cookie-banner choice for 180 days. Set by us.
  • ph_* / _posthog — set by PostHog only after you accept analytics. Used to recognize repeat visits within a session.
  • Standard Cloudflare cookies (e.g., __cf_bm) for bot mitigation and basic security. Required for the site to function safely.

Third parties we use

  • Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, DNS, security. Privacy-respecting analytics by default.
  • PostHog — product analytics and session replay (web + app). US-based, GDPR-aware. Consent-gated on the website.
  • WorkOS — authentication for the macOS app.
  • Sentry — crash and error reporting for the macOS app.
  • Apple — code signing, notarization, and Sparkle update checks for the macOS app.
  • Google Fonts — typography assets are loaded from Google's CDN; no account or persistent identifiers are involved.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to (a) tell you what data we hold about you, (b) correct it, (c) delete it, or (d) export it. If you're in the EU, UK, or California, you have these rights under GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA respectively, and we honor them regardless of where you live.

To opt out of website analytics: click "Manage preferences" in the cookie banner footer, or clear the cheeseboard-consent cookie and reload. To delete your in-app account and associated data: sign in to the app, go to Settings → Account → Delete account.

Children

Cheeseboard isn't directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EU) and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we'll delete the account.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy in a substantive way, we'll update the date at the top and post a brief note on our site. Older versions are kept on request. Continued use of Cheeseboard after a change means you accept the updated policy.
